A key design construct of the VMware Validated Design is the concept of Pods. Pods are the building blocks of the Software-Defined Data Center, with each Pod representing the collection of hardware and software needed to support a specific role within the SDDC. In the VMware Validated Design there are four types of Pods – management, edge, compute and storage. Pods are deployed as a series of physical racks that are interconnected over a common network core through which they and communicate through a common network core.
